There are several math apps on this site to aid with graphing, geometry, and statistics. The apps bring life to the concepts.
Positive: The resources and use of applets are free and there is a lot to offer in terms of concepts. The simulations are terrific. Negative: Students and teachers will need time to learn how to use the software (this will take away from class time). |
This is an applet that allows you to plot points and then maneuver the line of best fit. This is a good tool for students who understand radians.
Positive: Does regression quickly. Negative: Students will need to scale their data, as the grid only goes from 0-10 on both x- and y-axes. |
These are some educational applets to help visualize various concepts in math, physics, and engineering.
Positive: These are great applets that give the users the opportunity to "see" concepts come to life. Great for Physics and Science classes. Negative: Students may not know what they are looking at if they do not understand the concepts in class. Also, many of the topics are higher level courses. |
Another applet site with activities for Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. There are teacher resources and worksheets too.
Positive: Site includes many topics and partners with other sites for additional resources (calculator apps too). Negative: Takes a while to navigate (but other sites do too). |
A good site with lessons though not all of the lessons are free. You can click a box to search for free lessons only.
Positive: The site offers really interesting STEM project based activities. Negative: A paid membership is required for the majority of the lessons. |
This site offers a lot of topics in mathematics that can be searched on their site. Students have access to worked out solutions and explanations. Levels are k-12 and even college math courses.
Positive: Lesson topics are easy to find and reading through the lessons is easy for students to understand since they use everyday language and not difficult textbook explanations. Negative: Students will need to spend time searching and reading, something many of them do not like to do these days. |
"These projects are examples of the work that is done at all of the High Tech High Schools. It is our record of what we have done and how to get there. Teachers can utilize this to display what they have done with their students, and get ideas from others teachers. Students can show their parents and friends the work that they have done, and the community can see how project based learning enables students to do and learn. Please enjoy the projects and videos." (High Tech High)
Positive: The activities are interesting, meaningful, and engaging. Negative: The timelines for the projects are lengthy. |
This site offers games and worksheets. There is also a link on the site for parent tutorials in the event parents want to engage in helping their children learn math.
Positive: Printable worksheets/puzzles and parent center. Negative: Answer keys usually not provided. |
Listed on this site are subjects in which one can find additional resources to take learning in the classroom to another level. This site is worth taking a look at if you are looking for ideas in a particular area. This site hosts a variety of links to other websites.
Positive: There are a lot of resources and each link has a description about the linked website. Negative: Some of the sites that are linked require memberships (the ones I have tried are free). |
